Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & N. Ireland received with heavy hearts and utter shock the unprovoked, illegal inversion of a peaceful meeting, wanton harassment, brutal attack and killings of unarmed, law abiding and defenceless Igbo Youths at Emene Enugu on Sunday 23rd August 2020.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & N. Ireland profoundly and unequivocally condemn in the strongest way possible this utter, reprehensible, gruesome and dastardly act of violence against unarmed, peaceful, defenceless Igbo Youths in their own fatherland. This is simply a heinous and terrible crime against humanity. This act of lawlessness by security operatives contravenes the International Law and the United Nations Fundamental Human Rights Provisions – Freedom of Peaceful Assembly, which is an individual right or ability of people to come together and collectively express, promote, pursue, and defend their collective or shared ideas.
We note with a serious concerns and trepidation the rampant harassment, attacks, intimidation, destruction, raping, oppression, kidnappings, extortion and killings of Ndigbo all over Nigeria. These unfortunate state of affairs have continued unabated irrespective of the public uproar associated with the sordid actions and the alarm raised by well-meaning people both, nationally and internationally. Why is the President Mohammadu Buhari turning a blind eye and looking the other way while umuigbo are being killed and maimed in their drones in cold blood? What is the crime of Ndigbo in Nigeria?
It is unacceptable and incomprehensible that Ndigbo who are hardworking, law abiding and patriotic shall be crushed frequently without reason whereas the terrorist organisations like Boko Haram, deadly Fulani herdsmen and bandits across Nigeria are having a field day without any repercussions or consequences. We wish to make it categorically clear that the security agencies in Nigeria are incompetent, biased and skewed against Ndigbo. This must stop forthright. Igbo lives matter and incessant killings, maiming, kidnappings, rapping and damaging of our crops must not continue.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & N. Ireland expresses our sincere condolences to the families that lost their loved youths in this debacle. We pray God almighty to strengthen them to bear this irreparable and painful loss and grant these heroes eternal rest.
We wish to use this opportunity to call on the South East Governors Forum to set up a formidable Security Organisation for Ndigbo. This is long overdue! We also urge the South East Governors Forum to set a judicial panel of inquiry into the incident of Sunday 23/8/20 at Emene Enugu to find those behind this dastardly violence and crime against our people and ensure justice prevails. The Federal Government is enjoined to also set up independent judicial inquiry into this incident, deal fully with those culpable with the full wrath of the law.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & N. Ireland is calling on all Igbo organisations worldwide to come together, unite, speak with one voice in order to save Alaigbo. Time to act is now!
Dr Nnanna Igwe (President Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & N. Ireland)
